Wanda Gehrke

Wanda Gehrke, 83, San Pierre went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2024. Wanda was born to her parents Stanley and Mary (Rayonec) Wasilewskii on April 6, 1940 in Chicago, IL Her father Stanley was born in Poland and mother Mary was born in Lithuania. The Wasilewski’s eventually settled in San Pierre, IN. Stanley passed away in 1956 and Mary passed away in 1959. A lifelong resident of San Pierre, Wanda graduated from the San Pierre High School in 1957. Thus the song by the Statler Brother’s “Class of ‘57” was up there in favorite songs. Her all time favorite song was “Whispering Hope”. On October 26, 1958 she married Clarence Gehrke. Initially Wanda and Clarence lived in North Judson, before relocating to San Pierre where she remained until her passing. Wanda and Clarence enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Wanda loved animals and had an array of pets ranging from cats and dogs to horses. She had a green thumb and loved her flowers. Wanda also was a tremendous homemaker as she could cook just about anything and was well known for her homemade bread. Wanda had a vast amount of interests and hobbies that would take her to the lakes of northern Minnesota or the casinos of Las Vegas. Wanda was extremely lucky and once had her picture up on the wall of the Blue Chip Casino due to another big win. Wanda is survived by her husband Clarence, two sons Donald of North Judson and William of Knox and one daughter: Marge of Kouts. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Clarence (Heather) of Bass Lake, Fenton of Knox, Lena of Washington DC and Douglas of Dayton, IN. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Mary Wasilewski, sister Gloria (Raymond) Wodrich in 2019 (San Pierre) and Stella Wasilweski 2015 (Elk Grove Village, IL) Wanda was immensely proud of her family and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout the years Wanda was also a regular at the local San Pierre beauty shop in which she enjoyed discussions with the regulars. Visitation will be 11 AM CT Wednesday, March 27, 2024 followed by the Funeral Service at 1 PM CT at the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Inc., North Judson, Indiana. Burialwill be in the San Pierre Cemetery.
