William Frey

William “Bill” Richard Frey,97, of San Pierre, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 1:20 a.m., at his home with loved ones, and is now celebrating new life in heaven with the Lord Jesus. Bill was born September 1, 1925 in Lehighton Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Sebring) Frey. Bill was a very kind and gentle man who loved to help others in anyway he could. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Helen Frey, Margaret Kemmerer, Doris Semmel, Elmira Rossi, Julie Weiss and Geraldine Frey and three brothers, Lincoln, Gordon, and Lawrence. Bill married Caroline L. Frey (Eckert) who predeceased him in October 1983, and Suzanne Frey(Dennis), daughter in law, and Alice Stalbaum (San Pierre) niece. Survived by wife Irene Madsen Frey of San Pierre, Indiana. Dennis Frey of Tyler Texas. John Eckert(Cincinnati)nephew, Patrick Eckert(Indianapolis)nephew, Owen Eckert(Columbus Ohio)nephew, and son Mark Eckert, Edward Stalbaum(North Judson) great nephew and Godchild, Patti Sunny(North Judson) great niece, William Stalbaum(Brookston)great nephew, and Mackenzi Dolezal(North Judson) God Daughter, and many loving children from Irene’s family. Bill Frey was a man of GOD that lived that faith out every day of his life. The 9th of 10 children, Bill was the last living sibling. Bill joined the US Navy out of High School, originally Bill intended to fly, but was told he was color blind and would not be accepted. Bill still wanted to serve his country and the Military Doctor told Bill, go down the hallway and take the second right, they take everyone. That is how Bill become a CB, "Sea Bee." Bill learned to weld in the Navy as well as working heavy equipment as a "Sea Bee", Otherwise known as a Construction Battalion (CB). When Bill returned from the war, Bill met the first 'love of his life', Caroline. Bill was driving by her and saw how "beautiful she was." He stopped the car and asked her out, and she said "yes." Eventually, Caroline and BIll were married at St. Luke in San Pierre. Bill loved Caroline deeply and was "by her side" as battled cancer. Bill would spend endless hours next to her as she slowly declined. Bill would later say, "the loss of Caroline nearly killed me." Visitation will be from 11 to 1 CT Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Inc., North Judson, Indiana. Cremation will take place and Graveside Services will be planned at a later date.
