Connie S. (Smith) Eckert, 69, passed away in her home on July 9, 2026. Born on March 8, 1957, to Richard and Thelma (Trusty) Smith, Connie lived a life filled with adventure, family, and the simple joys that brought people together. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Thelma Smith; her husband, Patrick Eckert; her sister, Hattie Smith; her brother, Dewey Smith; and her loving companion, Buddy Gardner. She is survived by her children, Phillip R. Eckert (Ryan Roesler, deceased) and Julie N. Eckert (Vil Tagua); her beloved grandchildren, Madeline Tagua Horne, Savannah Tagua, and Ethan Tagua; her siblings, Richard Smith Jr., Loretta Rowe, Judy Franscoviak, and Sherry Deery; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Connie had a passion for travel that became both her career and her calling. After owning her own agency for a time, taking many people on trips all over the country, she went to work for a travel agency in South Bend, Indiana. She enjoyed helping others create lasting memories through travel. She enjoyed cruises, but of all the places she visited, Barbados held a special place in her heart. She was captivated by its crystal-clear turquoise waters and often spoke of it as her favorite destination. Those who knew Connie knew that one of her greatest expressions of love came from her kitchen. Family and friends always looked forward to the baked goods she would bring, especially her famous homemade cinnamon rolls, which became a treasured tradition. She also found happiness in life's simple pleasures, including fresh produce (specifically from Southern Michigan), and a bowl of ice cream. Connie was known for her strong convictions, independent spirit, and confidence. She wasn't afraid to share her opinions and had a remarkable way of making every conversation memorable. For many years, she opened her home for large family gatherings, creating traditions filled with laughter, good food, and lasting memories. She also had a special love for her dogs. First Dutchess, her companion and ever present sidekick for 19 years. After losing Dutchess she welcomed Willow into her heart and home who provided companionship and great joy. Connie will be remembered for her love of travel, generous heart, unwavering determination, and the many ways she showed love to those around her. Whether through a carefully planned trip, a warm pan of cinnamon rolls, or a family gathering around her table, she leaves behind memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who knew her. A celebration of Connie's life will be held on July 20, 2026 at 1pm EST (noon CST) at Highland Cemetery in North Judson, Indiana (SW Corner, IN-10 North Judson, IN 46366). Immediately following the graveside service, her sister, Loretta Rowe, has opened her home to receive friends and loved ones.
