Anna Cronauer

Anna Cronauer, age 94, was called home to live with Jesus on May 7, 2025. Anna was born on August 16, 1930 to Alfons and Katharina (Katzdobler) Sterl in Kirchberg im Wald, Germany. She had five siblings: Katharina, Alfons, Maria, Eduard, and Günther that grew up on a farm in Bavaria. She married Theobald J. Cronauer Sr. on October 25, 1955 in Montreal, Canada. Soon thereafter, they immigrated to the U.S.A. where they eventually became citizens and farmed land in Indiana. They were blessed with two sons, Al and Theo. Anna had such an adventurous spirit and strong determination that it led her to climb to the top of the Zugspitze (tallest mountain in Germany) with her grandson, and later to ride a jet ski at 92. She worked various jobs throughout her life which included multiple restaurants in Germany and Canada, the Five Star grocery store, and bartending at the Moose Lodge. Her heart for service led her to volunteer as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, the American Red Cross, and a variety of other events at her church and in the community. She spent her free time in bowling and golf leagues, singing in the church choir, gardening, and enjoying nature. Her sons, grandson, and great-granddaughter were her pride and joy. Anna is survived by her son Theo Cronauer Jr. and wife Shirley; grandson Jacob Cronauer, wife Nicole, and great-granddaughter Lydia. She is also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, & grand nieces and nephews who love her dearly. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Theobald Cronauer Sr., son Al Cronauer, parents Alfons and Katharina (Katzdobler) Sterl, stepfather Johann Augustin, and siblings Katharina Baumann, Alfons Sterl, Maria Bauer, Eduard Sterl, and Günther Sterl. Visitation is from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at O’Donnell Funeral Home, 302 Lane Street in North Judson, IN. The funeral mass will follow, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 303 Keller Ave., North Judson, IN 46366. After the mass, burial will take place at Saint Jacob Cemetery in North Judson, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna Cronauer’s memory to The Gathering Together, a wonderful hospice house that made Anna’s last days on Earth blessed and peaceful.
